A Man's Thoughts
An old, and distinguished, man takes his place at the head of the table. It is the place he has always sat. He has a hard time walking now. He tucks his cane behind the curtain, against the window.
The man looks at the table. It stretches clear across the room. It is one of three. It is a table his wife, also no longer young, has spent weeks preparing. She's ironed the table cloth, ordered the flowers, arranged the candles, baked the bread, placed the glasses, and set the dishes with the silverware all perfectly placed. It is beautiful.
It's the family's Palm Sunday Easter.
As the man sees I'm taking photos of the table, he, as usual, says what's on his mind. He says, "This could be our last Easter together in this house."
The man is the man we call Dad, Grandpa, and Great Grandpa.
