St Louis Park Residence

Project:   The client wanted to add a 3 bedroom/2 bath second floor to the rambler they had just purchased.  The first floor was to be completely remodeled.  All windows and doors to be replaced.

Design:  There was not much worth saving.  The existing foundation was used and formed the footprint of the new home.   The rambler's low slope roof was kept over the garage and repeated in a unique form over the entry.  Design elements were used to extend the living room through the angle of the original house.  The living room is open to the full height. with a "floating" loft looking over it.  A curved wall is built to hold a future large screen TV and which hides the audio/video closet and the mudroom. The 3 season porch was converted into a family room and opened up to the kitchen.  Curved soffits disguise the structural header.  A breakfast room is formed out of a previous bedroom.  The second floor is tucked into the steep sloped roof.  All upper rooms have vaulted ceilings.  Closets and bathrooms make use of the shorter under-roof spaces.

Status:  Client is living in new home, working on finishing things like railings, shelves for recesses, etc.  Looking to begin work on landscaping.  No new furnishings have been purchased.  Furnishings shown are from previous residence.
