The Cross and The Windows

A Cross And The Windows ...and Symbolism

The layout of the new library for Bethlehem College and Seminary has the same central design as its logo – the cross.

In the library, the cross is not only central, it is what everything revolves around. It is what things flow from.

The flowing is like a river, a river of life ...abstracted in carpet tiles.

The river leads to the doors and to the enlarged windows – windows that no longer obstruct the views, views that are not pretty. The views are not of majestic mountains or glistening seas but of streets and parking lots and concrete housing and ugly office buildings and the back side of churches – the world.

But it is to this world BCS is called.

To spread a passion for the supremacy of God in all things for the joy of all peoples through Jesus Christ.

BCS is a place to gather around the cross. To grow together. To swim in its waters. To soak in The Word.

It’s what this library’s about.

It is, however, but for a season. The cross is not a pond. It’s a river. It flows.

And they go.
